OptiTex Computer-Aided Design Software

The apparel design and product development students use the OptiTex suite of computer-aided design software in courses. OptiTex allows apparel designers to:

  • Create, alter, and manipulate garment patterns
  • Conduct virtual assessments of garment fit
  • Create cutting layouts
  • Grade patterns into a variety of sizes

The software is used by a number of major retailers, including Target and Lands End.

OptiTex software, in conjunction with a digitizing table, also allows students and faculty to input patterns used in digitally engineered textile prints, printed on the digital fabric printer.

Technology funding provided by the university ensures that the OptiTex software is updated regularly so students are always exposed to the most up-to-date technology in the field.
